The Kurayoshi Distillery
THE KURAYOSHI DISTILLERY Tottori, Japan Founded in 1910, Matsui Shuzo is located in the Tottori prefecture. The Kurayoshi Distillery has two different styles of stills. Three Alembic stills were installed in
Tottori Prefecture
2016 and produced mainly neutral grain spirits used for the gin. Two copper Pot Stills were commissioned in 2017, the wash still contains 5000L and the spirit still 3000L. The main feature on the stills is a moveable lyne arm so that different profiles of spirit can be produced. Currently the arms are horizontal to produce new make single malt that taste soft and mild. The warehouse location near the Sea of Japan imparts unique flavors during the maturation/aging process. The use of American Oak, Mizunara and Sakura casks further enhances the complex flavor profile.
The Kurayoshi Distillery has recently purchased an old schoolhouse in the town of Kurayoshi and the plans are to install multiple stills by 2030.
