Black Tot British Naval Rum “Last Consignment” 108.6PF / 750ML EXTREMELY LIMITED
For 2022, Black Tot drew inspiration from historical rums in our collection and the unique flavour profiles they exhibited over half a century ago. These rums, since lost in the rum world, were rich with notes of baked banana, dusty chocolate, mocha milkshakes, honey, tobacco, leather, liquorice, and spice. Casks were selected from Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad, that showcased the elements needed to recreate Black Tot’s traditional flavor profiles. Black Tot British Naval Rum “Finest Caribbean Rum” 92PF / 750ML EXTREMELY LIMITED Our Head Blender, Oliver Chilton, has developed a recipe featuring some of the world’s finest rums while creating a new and individual style. With nothing added or taken away, our final blend has been selected for its ability to allow the individual flavours of each rum to shine. Rounded and rich, with butter toffee, banana cream, and caramel to start. Gentle cinnamon and allspice build with more fruit – bake apples, pineapple cubes, and dried mango – joined by coffee, dark chocolate, and black pepper. Yes indeed, the legend is real. Black Tot is the last remaining stock of the original Royal Naval Rum Tot. On July 31, 1970, a 300-year-old Royal Naval tradition ended when the last rum ration was issued aboard the Royal Navy’s vessels. This day is remembered as “Black Tot Day”. Since then, the rum has sat silently in ceramic flagons in bonded warehouses only served at State functions and Royal
Yes indeed, the legend is real. In 1970, it was voted in Parliament to stop the rum ration given fears surrounding the more complex technology now in operation across the navy. Funerals were held for ‘the day the rum died’ and 31st July 1970 became forever known as BLACK TOT DAY. The remaining rum was put into flagons and saved for special occasions like the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, or for the rarely uttered decree to ‘Splice the Main Brace’. Flagons made their way into the hands of former officers who either drank them or sold them. Elixir Distillers co-founder Sukhinder Singh tracked down and purchased these last remaining flagons and blended them together to create “BLACK TOT LAST CONSIGNMENT”. It is a piece of liquid naval history with a story dating back to 1655. Thanks to careful storage in stone decanters, Black Tot Rum is back, bottled at an incredible 108.6 proof, very close to the original strength. The rums used to make Black Tot Last Consignment were predominantly sourced from the Caribbean and aged in a solera system that was at least 50 years old.
