MEGAN HUGHES Barnard Griffin Columbia Valley, Washington

MARTA CHICOTE Bodegas Borsao Campo de Borja, Spain

Megan, the youngest daughter of Rob and Deborah, discovered her passion for Washington wine while helping at the family winery, where she was paid in M&Ms. After earning a B.S. in Viticulture and Enology from WSU in 2010, she joined the family business, focusing on white wine production. Megan serves on the Association of Washington Business board, is active in industry groups, and volunteers to support young women pursuing STEM careers.

Marta Chicote has been the winemaker at Bodegas Borsao for 22 years. She serves on the board of Directors of the Campo de Borja DO and acquired her Masters of enology in 2004. “I fell in love with Garnacha; it expresses very much the terroir,” says Marta. “Throughout my professional career, the expression of wine in the nose fascinated me…I love listening to the wine, knowing what it wants to express.”

Like most good stories, Avaline started with a glass of wine. As friends Cameron Diaz (Actor, Wellness Author) and Katherine Power (Merit, Versed, Who What Wear) went to pour a glass they asked, “what exactly is in our wine, and does it live up to our standards?” Their journey to answer this question led them to create Avaline — organic, delicious wines that are free from unwanted additives and sugars. As a female-founded and -owned brand, Avaline is committed to supporting other women in wine to create more equity in the industry.
