Winery Overview Two of Italy’s most acclaimed winemakers, brothers Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, founded Falesco in 1979. Their philosophy is focused on balancing the uniqueness and tradition of native varietals with the versatility of international grapes. The result is a complete portfolio of wines that consumers and critics alike have recognized as exhibiting extreme value and best of class offerings. Location of Vineyard Falesco winery is located in Umbria’s Montecchio municipality near Orvieto, in the southwestern area that bordering the Lazio region. It is here that the varietal wines so important to the core of Falesco’s portfolio are produced, in addition to classical appellation wines such as Sagrantino. In Lazio, Falesco also maintains a cellar for the vinification of its DOC Est! Est!! Est!!! di Montefiascone as well as production of the flagship Montiano, a pure Merlot, which is one of Italy’s pioneers of the variety. The region is bordered by the Tyrrhenian Sea on the west and Italy’s mountainous center to the east. The dry, perfectly drained, volcanic terroir offers ideal growing conditions for textured reds and crisp, refreshing whites. Winemaking Philosophy The winery’s mission is manifold: to rediscover and promote Italy’s native varietals; to identify terroir areas with the ability to produce high quality wines; to perform ongoing research and experimentation in winemaking and vineyard management; and to continually improve the quality of all Falesco products. Winery Overview Fazi Battaglia’s success stems from quality vineyards along with a commitment to experimentation and continuous improvement under the guidance of quality oriented consulting winemaker, Franco Bernabei. The winery conducted a meticulous parcel study of its 12 single vineyards, followed by rigorous selection, which paved the way for new, high quality vineyard plantings. Since its inception, Fazi Battaglia has been committed to the native Verdicchio varietal. Location of Vineyard The Fazi Battaglia estate is located in the town of Cupramontana, in central Italy. It sits just 31 miles southwest of the Adriatic Sea and 50 miles southwest of the capital city of Ancona. In 1949, Francesco Angelini, a multifaceted entrepreneur with a passion for the countryside and a vision for quality, boldly released the first estate grown Verdicchio - Fazi Battaglia, in the Marche region. Since 1990, the estate has been managed by the 4th generations of the Sparaco and Giannotti families. Winemaking Philosophy The estate is comprised of 12 single vineyards managed by Mirco Pompili, with consulting winemaker, Franco Bernabei and Dino Porfiri. This dynamic team has reached global recognition, setting the benchmark for Marche wine production.
