Since its first vintage in 1978, Rubicon had been a Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Bascaules wanted to make it more elegant and refined. He began by reducing the amount of Merlot in the blend and increasing the amount of Cabernet Franc. He also began using more new oak barrels and aging the wine longer before release. In 2022, Inglenook unveiled a spectacular 22,000 square-foot winery cave featuring 120 remotely controlled fermen tation tanks that are aligned with each organically farmed vineyard block.
