Upon his retirement from the NFL in 2007, Drew Bledsoe "doubled back" to his hometown of Walla Walla, Washington to realize a long held dream. Drew and his Wife, Maura, purchased a piece of property on the southern edge of the Walla Walla Valley AVAand subsequently launched Doubleback as an estate focused winery with the goal of crafting America's best Cabernet Sauvignon in an elegant, true to varietal way. 2019 DoublebackCabernet Sauvignon 95+ The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is slightly more Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated and checks in as 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, and 3% Malbec, aged 23 months in a mix of new and neutral French oak. It's another killer wine, offering vibrant crème de cassis, graphite, tobacco leaf, and sappy flower aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, balanced, and elegant, it's straighter and more focused than the Estate Reserve and will benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and keep for two decades or more. – Jeb Dunnuck 94 The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 11% Malbec, and the rest Cabernet Franc that’s from a mix of sites outside of Walla Walla. Borsao – Bodegas Borsao is located in the D.O. of Campo de Borja and is considered the preeminent producer in the region. Borsao originated as a brand in 1958 when the cooperative of Borja was founded, and is comprised of 375 individual owners and growers. Campo de Borja is the birthplace of Garnacha and represents one of the best places on earth to reach optimal ripeness. St Cosme – Château de Saint Cosme is the leading estate of Gigondas and produces the appellation’s benchmark wines. Wine has been produced on the site of Saint Cosme since Roman times, evident by the ancient Gallo-Roman vats carved into the limestone below the château. The property has been in the hands of the family since 1490. Louis Barruol’s style combines the region’s typical ripeness with freshness, an elusive quality in the warm climate of the southern Rhône. One of the keys to freshness is the use of stems for their red wines. The stems absorb alcohol during fermentation and help retain acidity and tannin. Red wines are made by spontaneous fermentation.
