LEOPOLD BROTHERS DENVER, COLORADO “Fernet Leopold” Highland Amaro #396193 / 750ml / $30.00 The Leopold Brothers are at it again—this time with a fantastic new Fernet Amaro. This thing is loaded with spearmint and packs a lovely bitter finish. The nose is complex, with layers of mint, cocoa nib, lavender, vanilla, and a hint of smoke. A palate of ginger, hops, bergamot, rose, smoke, and mint make this cult Amaro worth diving into. Gold Medal 2013 San Francisco World Spirits Competition Aperitivo #323455 / 750ml / $30.00 In line with the traditional Italian style, the spirit centers around major flavor components: bitterness from gentian root and sweetness from cane sugar. Citrus is the third major component. Added distilled coriander and grapefruit peels give Leopold Bros. Aperitivo a bright, citrus aroma. These components are thenmixedwith a variety of fragrant flowering botanicals, including hyssop and Artemsia pontica. Aperitivo is colored with natural cochineal, which adds the vibrant red color that one expects from a traditional Aperitivo as it has been used in spirits for hundreds of years. Founded about a hundred years ago on the former premises of an old kiln, the distillery is located in the centre of an important wine zone, where the most typical vines from Piedmont are cultivated. Sibona is one of the historical distilleries in the Piedmont region and can boast the oldest distillation licence, the N° 1, issued by UTF (the official institution that regulates all the operations having to do with distilleries).This is a synonym for a great past and prestige.
