OJEN LEGENDRE USA, LOUISIANA It was a revival years in the making, with the utmost attention given to recreating its unique flavor profile, but when the Sazerac Company re released Legendre Ojen in 2016, they had revived something “as close as possible to the original.” Ojen Legendre Liqueur 84PF / 750ML Ojen is an anise liqueur, inspired by a Spanish spirit produced in the 1900s that gained popularity in New Orleans as a Carnival time favorite. “We think it’s cool that we can bring a piece of New Orleans around the country.”

It is renowned for blending traditional Japanese ume fruit with high-quality spirits, utilizing the soft groundwater from Mount Daisen.” ‘Matsui Umeshu’ Plum Whisky Liqueur 28PF / 750ML Pot distilled and lightly aged by Matsui’s Kurayoshi Distillery, this expression is crafted using the soft groundwater of Mount Daisen. Aromas of dried plum, raisin, and honey lead to a bright, faintly acidic umeshu. The palate concludes with a whisky-forward finish featuring lingering notes of vanilla, black tea, and apricot.

Orange peel DIRECTIONS

Add the whisky, Matsui Umeshu, and bitters to a mixing glass with ice. Stir well for about 30 seconds to chill and dilute. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. Garnish with an orange peel, expressing the oils over the drink. — DALE DEGROFF
