The New California Wines of Joseph Wagner

J oseph Wagner is a fifth generation Napa Valley winemaker with a dedicated passion for the business. Joe’s roots in the winemaking began at an early age. His family founded Caymus Vineyards in Napa Valley. In 2001 at age nineteen, he rolled up his sleeves and has yet to look back. His passion and natural talent for winemaking quickly became apparent after he started his own award-winning single vine- yard Pinot Noir label, Belle Glos and soonafter, Meiomi. In January 2014, Joe formed Copper Cane Wine & Provisions, with the goal of focusing on innovations that have always captured his interest, and to find new ways to offer the highest quality products that satisfy consumers’ appetites for genuine craftsmanship. This month we bring you wines from his projects Boen, Quilt and Beran.

Beran Zinfandel 2014 Retail Value $39.99 [NAPAVALLEY]

“In making Beran Napa Zinfandel, we had the pleasure to work with some of the region’s most noteworthy Zinfandel vineyards. We also were thrilled to include some Petite Sirah fruit from old-vine plantings.”

Quilt Chardonnay 2018

Retail Value $31.99

[NAPAVALLEY]

“For this Chardonnay, we relied on vineyards from the Oak Knoll and Carneros Districts where the climate is distinctly cooler and foggier than the northern environs of Napa Valley. Carneros is a world unto itself. For one, much of the soil is sedimentary clay loam with heavy gravel due to the region’s proximity to the mouth of the valley. This soil, combined with the chilling winds of the marine influence, yields a Chardonnay grape with impressive structure and a flinty minerality.” AROMATICS: Juicy white peach, honeysuckle, pear, white plum, and nectarine with notes of citrus and star anise. PALATE: Refreshing stone fruit, kiwi, apricot, nectarine, and meyer lemon zest followed by hints of lightly toasted oak. FOOD PAIRING: Oven baked chicken with white pepper and lemon, crab salad, or orzo salad with light lemon vinaigrette, goat cheese, and yellow peppers. COLOR: Pale straw yellowwith golden hues.
