Lo Zoccolaio

The Lo Zoccolaio tree is a great white poplar that sprouts two trees from the same roots. It is known as the tree of life, or as a phyiscal representation of good and evil. The double tree harks back to the inverted tree of the Jewish and Indian traditions, which depict the tree as having roots in the spiritual world, and foliage in the known world. Lo Zoccolaio produces only red wines, made from grapes from their own vineyards located in Barolo, Monforte, Novello and Verduno. The vineyards face southwest on the coast of the Bricco of Barolo. Here, wine is never just a product, a merchandise, a fashion but each bottle contains the history of its population and its territory. Baccanera Langhe Rosso DOC The name Baccanera translates from Italian as blackberry and refers to the four important grape varieties that constitute the final blend: Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Nebbiolo. Each varietal is cultivated in a separate vineyard and vinifications of the four grapes are carried out independently. The final blend is composed after the wines have undergone malolactic fermentation, and the exact composition of the blend will vary from year-to-year in keeping with the conditions each vintage.

Barolo DOCG White Label Lo Zoccolaio Barolo DOCG White Label follows local tradition of blending fruit from multiple comunes— in this case: Barolo, Monforte d’Alba, and Verduno. As a small-scale producer, Lo Zoccolaio executes meticulous attention to detail in every stage of wine making from vine to bottle. Hand-selected fruit undergoes soft pressing prior to a stainless-steel fermentation. 36 months of barrique aging follow with 1/3 new barrels, 1/3 second passage, and 1/3 third passage.

Barolo Riserva DOCG White Label Lo Zoccolaio Barolo Riserva is sourced from only 2 hectares of vineyard, one of which is in Barolo—the other of which is in Monforte d’Alba. Older vines and lower yields result in concentrated aromas and flavors. Careful winemaking is intended to protect and enhance those naturally complex aromas. Gentle pressing and stainless-steel fermentation preceed 42 months in barrique: 1/3 new barrels, 1/3 second passage, and 1/3 third passage.

Barolo Riserva DOCG Ravera Black Label Lo Zoccolaio is extremely fortunate to own 1.2 hectares of Nebbiolo vines averaging 30 years of age in the Ravera MGA, which is arguably the most important Cru in the comune of Novello. Lo Zoccolaio’s finished wine from these plots is the result of fanatical attention to quality. Only the best berries are accepted into the winery where soft pressing releases the highest quality juice. A nearly 3-week fermentation is followed by 42 months of aging in second passage Slavonian oak casks of 25HL. An exquisite wine, reflective of a unique site.
