France Burgundy
History • Joseph Drouhin always had a passion for wine, and in 1880 in Burgundy, he founded the independent company that still bears his name. • Today, his great grandchildren, Philippe, Véronique, Laurent and Frédéric, run the family-owned com pany from their ancestral home. Vineyards • The Joseph Drouhin Domaine was assembled parcel by parcel over the years and today comprises 73 hect ares (182.5 acres) of vineyards in Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Chablis. • The domaines owned by MJD are organic and they are the largest estate certified Ecocert in Burgundy. • More than two thirds of the vineyards are classified as Premier and Grand Crus. • It is one of the most important domaines in Burgundy.
Winemaking • The vinification is traditional with as little interference as possible. • Our care takes into account the origin of each wine: stainless steel vats to enhance fruit and freshness.
Style • Burgundy is known for its diversity. Expressing and preserving each terroir is our foremost concern. • Being able to express the exact character of each terroir is our goal; therefore, we have chosen the organic and biodynamic approach. • Our credo is “to bring natural answers to natural problems”. • The Joseph Drouhin style since 1880 is one of finesse, elegance, complexity and pleasure.
Saint-Véran 2020 • The vineyard site is at the south ern end of Burgundy, just north of Beaujolais. continuation of the lime stone strata is ideal for growing Chardonnay. Fermented in stainless steel. Bottling is usually done in the spring following harvest. Macon-Villages 2021 • Located in the Southern part of Burgundy, next to Pouilly-Fuissé. The clay and limestone soil of the Jurassic era found in this region is well suited for the Char donnay grape variety. Ferments in SS at a rather low temperature. Bottling is done early in the spring following the harvest. BeauneClosdesMouches2020 • Domaine area: 17.05 acres. • Average vine age: 45 years. • Biological since 1990; biody namic cultivation a few years later. Aged: in barrels (25% new oak). • • •
Laforêt Chardonnay 2020 •
It derives its general character from Mâcon, its crisp structure from Chablis, its body from Rully and Puligny-Montrachet, and its overall complexity from the young vines of Joseph Drouhin’s own “Crus”. It is the entry-level wine leading to the great white Burgundies. Grapes and must purchased from regular suppliers (long term contracts). Juices from the last pressings are not retained. No artificial yeasts or enzymes are used. Ageing Type: partly in stainless steel vats and partly in oak barrels (0% new oak).
