Dreyfus Ashby Winter Portfolio 2023

USA NAPA Valley

1882 Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 1882 was the first vintage produced by Inglenook founder Gustave Niebaum. That same year, Niebaum dug a small cave into the Mayacamas foothills on the back edge of the estate in his search for optimal barrel aging conditions. We have preserved that special 1882 cave on the estate – an enduring touchstone and symbol of Niebaum’s spirit of innovation and exploration, which continues to live on at Inglenook today.

2018 Vintage Notes: The 2018 vintage produced a generous crop of excellent quality. Well-timed precipitation in March and April encouraged slow, steady spring shoot development. Moderately warm temperatures throughout the season were ideal for gradual, even ripening of our Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvest for our 2018 Niebaum-Coppola Cabernet Sauvignon 1882 began in the Fountain block next to the historic Inglenook Chateau on September 19th, and continued at a smooth pace, culminating with blocks from our Cohn and Red Barn vineyards on October 18th. Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: • With its deep, red garnet color, the Niebaum-Coppola Cabernet Sauvignon 1882 leads off on the nose with attractive notes of cocoa powder, black cherry and ripe black plum. • Immediately round and supple on the palate, the wine shows ripe flavors of cassis and black cherry, with a deft touch of French oak on the finish. • Full and well-textured, this vintage of 1882 is particularly vibrant and fresh, with polished tannins of excellent quality. Appellation: Rutherford, Napa Valley Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard: Chateau, Cohn, Red Barn, Small Block Alcohol: 14.5% Barrel Regime: 18 Months, 11% New French Oak, 89% Neutral French Oak Bottled: May 2020 James Suckling - 94 Points - A solid cabernet with lots of blackberry, chocolate and walnut character. It’s full-bodied with plenty of fruit and a flavorful finish. Juicy and intense. - Also: Jeb Dunnuck – 90 Pts. Edizione Pennino Zinfandel 2019 Edizione Pennino Zinfandel honors Francis Ford Coppola’s maternal grandfather, Francesco Pennino, a music composer who was born in Naples, Italy and emigrated to America. “Edizione” means “edition” in Italian, so this is Inglenook’s “Pennino Edition” of Zinfandel. Two historic Zinfandel clones, Morisoli and Werle, complement each other in the creation of this tribute wine. The Morisoli lends structure, sweet fruit, and spice, in harmony with Werle’s inherent richness and dark fruit tones. The oldest Zinfandel vines on the historic I nglenook estate are in our Cow Barn, Woodshed, and Carriage blocks, which were planted in 1974 and 1978, and continue to provide the central core of the Pennino blend. 2019 Vintage Notes: Plentiful winter rainfall heralded an early start to the 2019 growing season for our Zinfandel blocks. Despite early budbreak, bloom and veraison, moderate weather in the summer and early fall led to normal timing for our Zinfandel to fully ripen at the end of September. Both the newer trellised blocks and the older head-trained, dry-farmed blocks on the back of the estate reached optimal ripeness on September 28th, which we now refer to as “Zinfandel Saturday.” The remaining few blocks close to the Chateau were harvested a few days later on October 1st. Very gradual final ripening during the extended period between veraison and harvest explains the superb condition and classic Zinfandel flavors of the harvested fruit.

Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: • The 2019 Inglenook Edizione Pennino Zinfandel is dark ruby red in color, with a purple edge.

• The nose is very focused, showing ample ripe fruit aromas of plum, clove, and ultraripe blueberry and blackberry. • The wine is sweet, plush, and generous in the mouth, with very round, velvety tannins that create a sense of warmth and balance on the finish.
