Rough Rider

DISTILLERY OVERVIEW Rough Rider is produced by Long Island Spirits, the first distillery on Long Island since the 1800’s. The distillery is rich in history and tradition, dating back to the early 1900’s. Long Island Spirits is truly a farm-to-bottle craft distiller operation in a unique setting producing innovative spirits with quality and integrity. LOCATION OF DISTILLERY Surrounded by over 5,000 acres (2,000 hecatres) of potato farms, the distillery is located on the North Fork, in the heart of wine country. The area’s long agricultural tradition provides the key ingredients for Rough Rider Bourbon and Rye. Brothers Henry and John Columbus originally constructed the beautifully restored barn that is today home to Long Island Spirits in the early 1900’s. Long Island Spirits spent all of 2007 retrofitting and modernizing the interior of the barn to be a state-of-the-art craft distillery. The barn retains a lot of its original character including its very impressive post-and-beam construction. Long Island Spirits is proud of the long history of this unique twin cupola barn and strives to help preserve this symbol of the rural character of the North Fork of Long Island. DISTILLING PHILOSOPHY In 1898 Teddy Roosevelt, a native Long Islander, organized the United States First Volunteer Cavalry, known as the Rough Riders. This disparate group of men shared a common purpose – the pursuit of adventure, independence, and excellence. The distillery at Long Island Spirits and the products crafted there, just miles from where the Rough Riders disbanded, embodies the same fearless spirit as these men and their leader.
