Loimer (LOY-mur ) Location: Kamptal Established: 1962 Principal: Fred Loimer (winemaker and owner) Hectares: 65

KEY POINTS: 1. Fred Loimer’s wines are among the very best examples of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling in Austria, marked by purity and clear site expression. 2. The winery is located near the village of Langenlois in the Kamptal region and is a model of modern efficiency. Vineyard holdings include several of Kamptal’s best Rieden [3] (single- vineyards). 3. Fred Loimer began practicing biodynamics in 2006 and is a founding member of respekt-BIODYN [1] and the Österreichische Traditionsweingütter [4] .

STADT KREMS (stat-krems) Location: Kremstal Established: 1452 Principal: Fritz Miesbauer (winemaker) Hectares: 31

STEINIG (STIEN-ig) Location: Niederösterreich Established: 2009 Principal: Fritz Miesbauer (winemaker) Hectares: 9

KEY POINTS: 1. Stadt Krems is a small winery belonging to the city of Krems located in Austria’s Kremstal region in the Danube River valley. It was established in 1452 to provide revenue for the hospital of Krems. With the appointment of current winemaker Fritz Miesbauer in 2003, the 500+ year-old city- owned winery was given new life by a young and dynamic winemaking team. 2. The new team rebuilt the terraces of their two Erste Lagen (classified vineyard sites): Wachtberg and Grillenparz and refurbished the cellar; sparing no expense to deliver high quality. 3. Certified Sustainable by Lacon and a member of the Österreichische Traditionsweingütter [4] .

KEY POINTS: 1. Steinig is the brainchild of Fritz Miesbauer, whose aim is to deliver a straight-forward Grüner Veltliner from Lower Austria for the international market. 2. The wine’s tasting notes include the typical Austrian characters of citrus, tree fruit and subtle spiciness. 3. This is a reliable Grüner Veltliner for any occasion.

PRAGER (PRAH-ger) Location: Wachau Established: 1715 Principals: Toni Bodenstein (winemaker and owner), and Ilse Bodenstein (owner) Hectares: 17.5 KEY POINTS: 1. Franz Prager, co-founder of the elite Vinea Wachau [5] , had already earned a reputation for his wines when current winemaker Toni Bodenstein married into the family. 2. Bodenstein’s passion for biodiversity and old terraces, coupled with brilliant winemaking, places Prager in the highest echelon of Austrian producers. 3. The estate enjoys a reputation for producing world-class wines of power, precision and clear terroir expression.

RUDI PICHLER (rudy PEAK-ler) Location: Wachau Established: 1904 Principal: Rudi Pichler (winemaker and owner) Hectares: 15

KEY POINTS: 1. Rudi Pichler is among the elite growers of the Wachau producing powerful wines of depth, substance, and razor- sharp expressions of terroir. 2. Holdings in top Rieden [3] in Wösendorf and Weissenkirchen. Grüner Veltliner and Riesling make up 95% of the production with the remaining 5% shared between Weissburgunder and Roter Veltliner. 3. Rudi Pichler belongs to the prestigious Vinea Wachau [5] and vinifies under the strict parameters of its codex.

WIENINGER (VEEN-een-guhr) Location: Vienna (Wien) Established: 1905 Principals: Fritz Wieninger (owner and winemaker) and Lisse Wieninger (owner) Hectares: 50.5 KEY POINTS: 1. Wieninger is the leading wine estate in the city of Vienna and is a champion of Gemischter Satz (Geh-mish-ter Sah-ts), a traditional field blend popular in Austria’s heurigen (wine taverns). Owner and winemaker Fritz Wieninger was one of the first in Vienna to focus on quality and helped establish the Wiener Gemischter Satz DAC. 2. Vineyard holdings are in the historic Nussberg and Bisamberg areas in northern districts of Vienna. 3. Fritz Wieninger is one of the founding members of respekt- BIODYN [1] as well as WienWein [7] .

HEINRICH (HINE-rick) Location: Burgenland Established: 1990 Principals: Gernot Heinrich (winemaker and owner) and Heike Heinrich (owner) Hectares: 90 KEY POINTS: 1. Gernot and Heike Heinrich founded their winery in 1990 with just one hectare and have steadily grown to 90 hectares. Today, Heinrich is a leading producer of the Leithaberg DAC. 2. An inquisitive and evolving producer in northern Burgenland focused on Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt, regarded as one of Austria’s most innovative wine producers. 3. Heinrich converted to biodynamics in 2006 and is a founding member of respekt-BIODYN [1] and a member of Pannobile Growers Association [2] .

PAUL ACHS (paul ox) Location: Burgenland Established: 1952 Principals: Paul Achs (winemaker and owner), and Elfriede Achs (owner) Hectares: 23.5 KEY POINTS: 1. Paul Achs returned to the family winery in Gols in 1991 after spending time in California where he learned to produce red wines at the highest level of quality. Today he is regarded as a benchmark producer of Blaufränkisch characterized by elegance and finesse. 2 Vineyard holdings are in the prized and historic area around Gols. Ninety percent of the production is dedicated to red wine and all 23.5 hectares are farmed biodynamically. 3. Achs is a founding member of respekt-BIODYN [1] and a member of Pannobile Growers Association [2] .

SZIGETI (ZIG-it-ee) Location: Burgenland Established: 1990 Principals: Peter Szigeti (owner) and Norbert Szigeti (winemaker and owner) KEY SELLING POINTS: 1. Szigeti is a family-owned Sekt producer located in the northern Burgenland village of Gols, led by brothers Norbert and Peter Szigeti who took over the family business in 1990. 2. Traditional method sparkling wines are made from both Austrian and international varieties. 3. A broad range of wines is produced, made in a fresh style with clear varietal expression for both celebration and the table.

SATTLERHOF (SAT-ler-hof) Location: Südsteiermark, Steiermark Established: 1887 Principals: Maria and Willi Sattler (owners), and Andreas Sattler (winemaker), Alexander Sattler (export manager) Hectares: 40 KEY SELLING POINTS: 1. Sattlerhof is a leading producer in Austria’s South Styria region. The Sattler family was one of the earliest in the region to bottle high-quality dry white wines beginning in the 1970s. 2. Holdings are in several top vineyards in Gamlitz rated premier cru and grand cru by the STK [6] group 3. All estate vineyards are hand-harvested and farmed organically.

1. respekt - BIODYN - a biodynamic certifying body cofounded by Paul Achs, Gernot Heinrich, Fritz Wieninger, and Fred Loimer and officially established in 2007. Membership is small with more coming on board as they complete the 3-year certification process. Respekt differs from other biodynamic certifications in that it is purely tailored to viticulture. 2. Pannobile - portmanteau of “noble” and “Pannonia,” is a 9-member growers association in the Burgenland village of Gols. The members are dedicated to developing wines of high quality with character typical for the area. A wine labeled “Pannobile” may be either white or red and must be made from local varietals.

ÖTW members currently classify their production into three categories: • ÖTW Erste Lage (single vineyard premier cru) • Ortswein (Villages wine) • Gebietswein (Regional wine)
